Ghost blog - How to disable portal scripts and membership features

I was quite annoyed back when the Ghost team introduced a lot of bloated scripts on what I believed should be the fastest and simplest blogging platform out there. However I recently figured out that they have made it possible to disable the membership feature. You are likely here because you are wondering about the /member/ request or the portal.min.js script from unpkg.com is slowing down your Ghost blog. The good news is that you can disable this by disabling the members ship feature on your Ghost blog. You can do this by going to:

Settings -> Membership -> Subscription Access -> Nobody

You can see it in the image down below:

After doing this my blog improved in Google lighthouse and on Google pagespeed results:

Before:
lighthouse-before

After:
lighthouse-after

Note: If you are using the membership feature you should reconsider what you are doing, however this was not the case for me. Thanks to the Ghost team to make it possible to disable this feature and for listening to the feedback!

I hope you found this post helpful, let me know what you think in the comments down below.
